“Almost impossible…” Tottenham react to fresh Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United update with ‘agreement close’

Tottenham have reacted to a fresh update as Manchester United gain further ground on securing Brentford star winger Bryan Mbeumo this summer.

Manchester United are set to make their second signing of the summer, having already brought in Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier this month.

The 26-year-old Brazilian forward will finalise his £62.5 million move once he returns from international duty, signing a five-year contract with the club.

Rúben Amorim is still looking to strengthen his attacking options, with United now focusing on Bryan Mbeumo of Brentford, who has made it clear he wants to join the Reds.

While Brentford turned down a bid worth up to £55 million last week, discussions are ongoing, and United are pushing to get the deal done quickly.

United’s pursuit of Mbeumo coming to a final agreement

Manchester United have identified Bryan Mbeumo as a key target to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the 2025–26 season.

A report from transfer journalist Rudy Galetti explains that personal terms between United and Mbeumo have been settled, demonstrating the player’s desire to join the club.

The only obstacle remaining is the transfer fee, with Brentford demanding a valuation close to £60 million. Galetti explains that the valuation is now just “a few million” that needs to be worked out.

United are said to remain optimistic that a deal will be reached soon, with discussions progressing in a positive direction.

Tottenham react to United closing in on agreement

Tottenham Hotspur were initially keen on signing Mbeumo, especially following the appointment of Thomas Frank as manager.

Frank’s existing relationship with Mbeumo from their time together at Brentford was seen as a potential advantage in negotiations, with Spurs looking to hijack United’s move for the Cameroon international.

However, as revealed by Galetti late on Tuesday evening, Mbeumo has made it clear that Manchester United is his preferred destination.

Realising they can no longer compete with United’s offer or appeal, Spurs have now cooled their interest and exited the race as they see it as “almost impossible” to secure Mbeumo over United this summer.
