Alejandro Garnacho’s reaction is clear after Manchester United outcast receives major setback

Alejandro Garnacho’s reaction to his latest setback is clear as he continues to look for a move away from Manchester United before the summer.

Once tipped as Manchester United’s next superstar, Alejandro Garnacho burst onto the scene during Ralf Rangnick’s tenure and made an even bigger impression the following year under Erik ten Hag.

Donning the No.17 shirt, the winger was instrumental in United’s 2024 FA Cup final success, breaking the deadlock before Kobbie Mainoo doubled the lead after a sublime Bruno Fernandes assist.

But Garnacho’s Old Trafford future has been thrown into uncertainty after his outspoken remarks in the wake of United’s Europa League final loss to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Argentine publicly hit out at Ruben Amorim for selecting Mason Mount ahead of him, prompting the United boss to place him on the transfer list and omit him from the club’s pre-season tour.

Garnacho did not appear in the squad for the opening weekend clash with Arsenal, and is waiting for a move to Chelsea to materialise.

Garnacho receives major setback

Garnacho’s preference to join Chelsea has been made clear and he has rejected several other offers from clubs in Europe this summer.

But the Blues are not prepared to meet United’s demands and they are clearly expecting for the Reds to lower their valuation of the winger as he clearly has no future at Old Trafford.

On the other hand, those at Old Trafford clearly believe that Garnacho needs the move just as much as them and that is reflected in his latest setback.

It has been confirmed that Garnacho has been overlooked for the Argentina squad for upcoming World Cup qualifiers next month.

The United winger made his Argentina debut in 2023 and was regularly called up to the national team in the following year. But he has not taken part in any team training since the end of last season and has now been overlooked.

Garnacho’s reaction is clear

Garnacho’s response to this setback seems to be clear – he still wants a move to Chelsea and is willing to dig his heels in the ground to make it happen.

Recent reports from Fabrizio Romano stated that Garnacho has told United chiefs that he will sit on the bench for the next six to 12 months if they don’t facilitate his Chelsea move.

That is a dangerous game for the 21-year-old to play, and he would almost certainly miss the 2026 World Cup if he remains at Old Trafford.

It will be interesting to see how United deal with this situation, and whether they do eventually lower their demands to allow this Chelsea move to go through.

Most fans want to see Garnacho leave but a lot of them wouldn’t mind the club making an example of him by not bowing down to Chelsea in negotiations, even if that means he is sitting in the reserves.
