Alejandro Garnacho’s preferred transfer destination revealed as Man Utd confirm Matheus Cunha signing

Alejandro Garnacho’s preferred transfer destination has been revealed after Manchester United confirmed the signing of Matheus Cunha.

It’s looking likely that this summer will see a massive overhaul at Manchester United, with Ruben Amorim looking to rejuvenate the squad and that means multiple players coming in and even more leaving.

The first big-money signing that United have made is Wolves forward Matheus Cunha, who has had two impressive full seasons in the Premier League. United have also signed youngster Enzo Kana-Biyik from Le Havre, although he looks likely to spend his first season out on loan.

There have already been some departures from the club confirmed with Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen leaving on free contracts and Jonny Evans retiring. As they are not being sold, the benefit for the club financially will be their wages off the wage bill rather than a transfer fee.

While this is a good start, the most important departures will be those leaving for bigger transfer fees. Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony all look set to be sold and now another departure’s ideal new club has been revealed.

Garnacho wants Chelsea move

Following Amorim reportedly saying that Alejandro Garnacho “better pray” that he can find a new club, a number of suitors have emerged. Amongst those, it would appear that his favoured destination is Chelsea.

Richard Moriarty of The Sun reported a source as saying “Alejandro knows the Premier League is the best in the world. And while he has had some good moments at United, he wants to establish himself as a world star”.

The relationship between Garnacho and the club seems to have deteriorated following a number of interviews and comments made by the Argentinian and his family. The worst of Garnacho’s antics came following United’s defeat in the Europa League final to Tottenham, where in an expletive statement he criticised Amorim for not playing him more in the match.

The source referred to this as Garnacho’s “exit interview moment” and that his intention was to “annoy people so much that there was no option but to sell him”. They went on to say “It’s not gone down well with the rest of the players. There is a feeling that while he’s a good player, he’s not quite as good as he thinks he is”.

The other club that could rival Chelsea for Garnacho’s signature is Napoli who are still looking for a winger to replace Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Despite Napoli’s recent Serie A title win, the quotes from the Sun’s source indicate that Garnacho would prefer to stay in England.

The type of player United needs to move away from

While some United fans may be disappointed to see such an undoubtedly talented youngster head for the exit, it may actually be in the club’s best interest. The post-Tottenham interview isn’t the Argentines’ first instance of disrespect towards the club and if United is to progress then they’ll need players with the right attitude.

In January, Garnacho alongside Kobbie Mainoo were reportedly available for the right price in order to fix United’s financial situation. Mainoo has been a constant professional and has recently captained United during a post-season game against Hong Kong. While both players are talented, if one has to be sold it should be Garnacho who has not displayed his peers’ professionalism.

Additionally, it does seem to be true that Garnacho believes he’s better than he actually is. While he was frustrated not to have played more minutes in the final he hasn’t impressed this season in Europe having had 43 shots and only one goal.

Additionally, he has missed the most big chances of any United player this season in every completion with a total of 25 big chances missed. In a season where United have struggled to score goals, Garnacho’s wastefulness has been a major contributing factor and has hurt players in the forward position like Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee when he decided to attempt a shot rather than a pass.

Although Garnacho could turn out to be a fantastic player, the club needs to move some people on. Despite shining in moments, his wastefulness and personality have been a detriment to the United this season and it looks better for both parties to part ways.
