Manchester United offered Victor Osimhen discount with Napoli ‘not scared’ over Chelsea’s Alejandro Garnacho interest
Napoli are reportedly using Manchester United’s need for a striker in their favour as they continue to push ahead with a transfer for Alejandro Garnacho this month.
Manchester United are aiming to offload several players during the January transfer window as they look to generate funds ahead of a pivotal summer.
Rúben Amorim’s side began 2025 in encouraging fashion, drawing with Liverpool, edging past Arsenal on penalties in the FA Cup, and beating Southampton 3-1, powered by a brilliant 12-minute hat-trick from Amad. However, a disappointing 3-1 loss to Brighton has dampened spirits.
Despite pressing needs for reinforcements at left-back, in midfield, and up front, United’s transfer business has been sluggish so far.
Amorim has publicly stated his intention to retain the core of his squad, but the club are ready to move on several players before the window closes, with loan deals expected to account for the majority of departures.
The latest on Napoli’s pursuit of Garnacho
One man who has been in the news a lot over the last few weeks is United winger Alejandro Garnacho, with Fabrizio Romano explaining that his future is one to watch this month.
The 20-year-old winger has been subject to intense interest from Serie A side Napoli in the last few weeks as they look to replace Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, although Chelsea are said to be monitoring his situation, too.
According to Italian outlet Il Mattino, via Sport Mediaset, Napoli have expressed that they are not scared of Chelsea’s reported interest in Garnacho as they have already had extensive assurances that the Argentinian international would only want to join Napoli if he left United.
The report states that the difference in valuations between United and Napoli remains around £17 million, with the Old Trafford club seeing Garnacho as a £65 million player, while Napoli are yet to venture an offer of over £50 million.
Napoli using Osimhen as bait for United
However, the aforementioned story also adds an interesting twist to the tale.

According to Il Mattino, Napoli have told United that should they cooperate and lower their demands for Garnacho, the Serie A side would be willing to offer Amorim’s club a discount for Victor Osimhen.
Napoli are currently sitting with a valuation of just over £63 million for the Nigerian international, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray after falling out with the club’s upper management.
However, with United struggling for goals and Amorim keen to add firepower to his ranks, this may tempt the club to lower their demands.
Amorim is said to be a fan of Osimhen, and the 26-year-old has a good range of scoring ability and experience that could help sort a few of the issues United are suffering from.
