Alan Shearer makes surprising “get away with” Rúben Amorim claim amid Manchester United changes
Rúben Amorim has made a surprising claim about Rúben Amorim amid a series of changes at Manchester United.
Rúben Amorim has officially taken over as Manchester United’s head coach, following the departure of Erik ten Hag last month.
Although his appointment was announced three weeks ago, Amorim’s start was delayed due to complications with his release clause at Sporting CP. Now, with the issue resolved, the 39-year-old has finally arrived to begin his work.

In his absence, Ruud van Nistelrooy served as interim manager, leading the team to three wins and a draw. Despite these results, United remain in 13th place in the Premier League and 15th in the Europa League standings.
Amorim led his first training session on Monday morning as he embarked on the significant challenge of turning United’s season around and recently held his first press conference at the club.
Shearer’s surprising claim
Former Premier League striker Alan Shearer has had his say on Rúben Amorim, explaining surprisingly that he feels the Portuguese coach will be able to “get away with” a few early hiccups due to the amount of fresh change at the club.
As well as a new head coach, United have seen their entire leadership team change in the last eight months, with a new CEO, sporting director, technical director, and head of recruitment among the crowd.
“Rúben Amorim officially started his new job as Man Utd manager, and in an ideal world, he’ll start climbing the Premier League table immediately and clinch a European spot,” Shearer told BetFair.
“You never get a free pass when you become the new manager of Manchester United, but you might get away with one or two things because there’s so much to be done at the football club and so much to be changed.
“It may take a little bit of time for Ruben to implement his own ideas and own system on some of the players because they’ll probably try a system that they haven’t played before.
“Whilst you don’t want to make excuses for anyone, the damage that’s been done over the years at Man United and how hard it’s been for them, you’d understand if it takes a bit of time for Amorim to get it right.”
Time isn’t needed
Amorim explained how much time he thinks he needs as United boss to help change the club’s fortunes, saying that he feels this will become clearer as he conducts his business.
“I have two years and a half in my contract and you guys talk about that!” he said when asked how long he thinks it will take to stamp his authority at the club.
“I think, in two years, you guys can understand if I am the right man in this process. We will need more time because if you look to the other clubs that are winning this league, they are doing this process for a long time but they are winning so they have time to do this project.
“I understand we will need more than two-and-a-half years, we have to win something, somewhere, but, in two years, you can understand if you want to continue on this path or change. So we will see how long it will take.”
