Rúben Amorim has said the same seven words as Erik ten Hag, but this time it sounds believable
Rúben Amorim has uttered a seven-word phrase that echos his predecessor Erik ten Hag, but this time, the Manchester United claim sounds believable.
Rúben Amorim is preparing to lead Manchester United in his first match as head coach, with his team traveling to face Ipswich Town in an important Premier League clash.
Scheduled for Sunday afternoon, the game provides United’s players with maximum rest after a demanding international break that saw 13 of them in action, while others focused on recovering from injuries.

United are currently 13th in the Premier League table, but after Ruud van Nistelrooy steadied the team during a turbulent spell under Erik ten Hag, there is a renewed sense of optimism around the club.
Despite their current standing, United are only four points off Arsenal and Chelsea, who both occupy Champions League qualification spots—highlighting how tight the race for Europe remains.
Amorim’s seven words
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Amorim was asked why he feels that, despite being the sixth permanent boss at the club since they last won the Premier League, he is the one who can bring glory back to Old Trafford.
The 39-year-old replied by explaining that, beyond him being a bit of a dreamer, he said that he and the leadership team “have the same idea” and mindset surrounding how to rebuild the club.
“I am a little bit of a dreamer, and I believe in myself,” he told the press on Froday afternoon. “I also believe in the club as I think we have the same idea, the same mindset, so that can help.
“But I truly believe in the players also, I know that you guys don’t believe a lot in these players, but I believe a lot and I think we have room to improve. I want to try new things and you guys think it is not possible, I think it is possible and we will see in the end.”
Echoing Ten Hag’s words
Amorim’s seven-word claim of “I think we have the same idea” regarding the leadership team at United echoes words Erik ten Hag uttered multiple times before the Dutchman was sacked as the club’s manager.
Speaking in September after a tough 3-0 loss against Tottenham, Ten Hag claimed that he and the leadership team were all on the same page, and that his contract extension in the summer proved this.
“We all made togetherness in this decision to stay together, as an ownership, a leadership group in the summer,” he said.
“Also, we made the decision from a clear review what we have to improve and how we want to construct a squad, but we knew it will take some time. We are all there on the same page, in the same boat – myself, the players, the leadership. We are together.”
However, despite Ten Hag repeatedly making this claim, no one ever really believed him, and this was proven once he was relieved of his duties at Old Trafford.
With Amorim, his words feel more secure. He was hand-selected by club CEO Omar Berrada to lead the team and, by all accounts, was the club’s first choice. Amorim retains the complete backing of United’s leadership and the fans and players.
