Alan Shearer has predicted where Manchester United could finish in the Premier League table after their defeat to Everton.
Manchester United looked to be turning a corner after going five games unbeaten, which included wins over Brighton, Sunderland and Liverpool.
However, it felt like the Reds took a significant step backwards last weekend when they lost 1-0 to Everton despite David Moyes’ side playing with 10 men for most of the game.
After that result, United sit 12th in the Premier League table but could climb as high as fifth with a win over Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.
We are still at a point in the season where a solid run of form could put United into a strong position to challenge for the Champions League places, but some poor results would see them slowly fall behind.
Shearer makes interesting Man Utd Premier League prediction
Alan Shearer has given his opinion on United after their defeat to Everton and explained how people shouldn’t get carried away after losses like that or when they’re winning games.
He believes that the level United are at will see them finish between seventh and 10th in the Premier League table. Positions that would see United miss out on Champions League football.
“If they had beaten Everton on Monday night, they’d have been in the top four. I wouldn’t get carried away with them losing that game, and I wouldn’t get carried away when they’re on a run,” Shearer told Betfair.
“I still think they’re a seventh, eighth, ninth or 10th position team. There’s been improvement, but it’s not very hard to improve, especially with the money that they’ve spent.
“You’d be worried if they didn’t improve. But in terms of are they a top six team? I don’t think so.”
United must qualify for Champions League
It has been reported that United bosses are expecting the side to qualify for European competition next term but given the circumstances, Champions League qualification must be secured.
United are only playing once a week and have some of the best attacking talent in the Premier League. Many other teams do not look as impressive either.

After a terrible season last term, United would get a big boost from qualifying for Europe’s elite competition and there should be a level of pressure on Amorim to deliver that.
It will be interesting to see whether United improve the squad further in the January window to help achieve this aim.
