Alan Shearer predicts Leicester City vs Manchester United result – “Shoots of improvement”
Alan Shearer has offered a positive prediction as Rúben Amorim’s Manchester United travel to face Leicester City in the Premier League on Sunday evening.
Manchester United return to Premier League action with a trip to Leicester City as Rúben Amorim looks to build on a strong midweek performance.
United impressed on Thursday night, securing a 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad to book their place in the Europa League quarter-finals, where they will face Olympique Lyonnais next month.
With that tie still weeks away, the focus now shifts back to domestic matters as United aim to climb from 14th in the league table.
This match also sees United come up against club legend Ruud van Nistelrooy, who took charge as interim manager for four games before Amorim’s arrival in November. It will be the second time the two meet in the dugout this season.
United have already beaten Leicester three times this campaign, recording wins in the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and Premier League—all at Old Trafford. This time, however, they face the challenge of taking on the Foxes at the King Power Stadium.
Shearer hands positive United prediction
As far as United go, they have become a very hard team to predict. Poor results against sides such as Everton and Crystal Palace have left fans scratching their heads, while fantastic performances against the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, and Real Sociedad give confidence.
United’s recent result against Sociedad was United’s most complete performance under Amorim, notching four goals and great performances from Casemiro, Joshua Zirkzee, and others amid Bruno Fernandes’ hattrick.
With this in mind, former Premier League striker Alan Shearer feels that the upcoming Leicester fixture provides United with a good base to continue winning.
“There are shoots of improvement at Manchester United. For that reason, I’m going to say they’ll win because Leicester has been really poor,” Shearer told BetFair.
United must build momentum under Amorim
More than anything, United have been missing the ability to build momentum under their new head coach.
The turn of the year saw the side churn out four wins in their first five games, but injuries to key players such as Amad, Lisandro Martínez, and Kobbie Mainoo halted their progress as they plunged back into inconsistent performances.

However, the recent draw against Arsenal and win over Sociedad, combined with the return of several injured players across the next couple of weeks, can set United up for a great end to the season.
After the Leicester game comes the international break, and with a host of United players not selected for upcoming internationals, this will give Amorim two weeks on the training pitch with many of his players.
A win on Sunday afternoon would set the club up for a few days of rest before creating a positive environment across the international break heading into the crunch end of the campaign.
