Al-Hilal have identified one of Manchester United’s transfer targets as an alternative to Bruno Fernandes is he decides against joining them.
Manchester United have just completed a terrible campaign and are trying to look ahead and see how they can improve ahead of next season.
Ruben Amorim needs to improve his squad but there are various players who could leave the club as well. With no European football, the Reds are planning to trim down the squad.
There are no plans to sell Bruno Fernandes, who was one of the only players who could hold their head high from the last season. He scored 19 goals and assisted 20 times as he tried to drag United forward.
But there is significant interest in the club captain from Saudi Arabia, with Al-Hilal trying to sign him to be their marquee signing for the Club World Cup this summer.
Al-Hilal will try to sign “crazy” midfielder if Fernandes deal fails
Various reports have detailed the insane contract being offered to Fernandes from the Saudi Pro League side, with a wage of around £700,000-a-week.
It has also been claimed that they are willing to pay around £100 million to United for their captain, but it is clear that they do not want to sell the player.
The latest information from MailSport on Tuesday afternoon states that Al-Hilal have given Fernandes until Thursday to respond to the offer, and that they already have alternative targets in mind for if he rejects them.
It is claimed that Atalanta midfielder Ederson and Youri Tielemans of Aston Villa are the other players Al-Hilal are eyeing to bolster their team ahead of the Club World Cup.
United are also reportedly interested in Ederson, who has “crazy” energy in the midfield and would likely cost around £50 million.
Fernandes wants to stay at United
Fernandes clarified this week that he would only try and leave United if it is made clear to him that they do not want him to stay.
It has been made clear in reports and comments from Amorim that the Reds have no intention of allowing the Portuguese midfielder to leave.
“It is important for Bruno to see that we are changing a lot of things in our club,” Amorim told TNT Sports on the weekend.
“The behaviour, the everyday organisation, the pace of training. All these things, if he sees that we are doing that across all levels, he will want to stay at this club. He loves this club.
“That is the most important thing, not the Champions League. He wants to win with this club and he trains and behaves at a high level. Everybody here needs to do that – he will be here for that.”
So it seems like it would be a major shock if things have changed by the end of the week, and United are likely to be entering next season with Fernandes at the heart of the project under Amorim.
