Al-Hilal and Manchester United might end up doing some business together this summer despite the collapse of the Bruno Fernandes deal.
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has rejected a massive offer from Al-Hilal that would have seen him become one of the highest-paid players in football history.
The Saudi Pro League side were prepared to offer the 30-year-old a staggering £700,000 per week and submit a bid of up to £100 million to United, hoping to lure him with the chance to play in the Club World Cup and continue his career in the Middle East.
However, after holding talks with his family and consulting with the club, Fernandes has opted to remain at Old Trafford and see out his current contract.
He remains determined to compete at the top level in Europe and believes he still has plenty to offer to Ruben Amorim’s side.
Al-Hilal could offer United transfer solution
While United are happy to see Fernandes stay at the club, they would have been less pleased when it emerged that Jadon Sancho would be returning to the club after Chelsea paid the £5 million fine to opt out of their agreement to sign him.
Sancho is unwanted at Old Trafford and will go on the transfer list once again but it is worrying to think that the main reason he was sent back from the Blues is because he would not lower his wage demands. Sancho is currently on over £300,000-per-week on his United contract and only willing to go down to around £200,000-per-week.
United could find difficulties moving him on if he stays firm with those demands, although, the one place which may be able to meet Sancho’s desired wages is in the Saudi Pro League.
A report from ESPN has claimed that Al-Hilal are one of three Saudi teams interested in Sancho, who is said to be considering his options in Europe before any talks of a move to the Middle East, but it certainly seems like it could solve an issue for United if no one else is able to match his demands.
United’s summer will be defined by player sales
Signing Cunha and potentially Mbeumo isn’t too much of a surprise for United fans. Despite their poor form, this is still Manchester United.
The Reds have always been able to convince talented players to move to Old Trafford but the thing they’ve struggled with massively is selling unwanted stars.
There should be at least three or four sales this summer which move straight into the club’s top five in terms of transfer fee gained, but there are doubts about that happening.
The success in player sales will define United’s window and whether it will become a success or failure. Sancho finally being off the books permanently would be a good start if they can get there.
