Manchester United have already arranged a loan deal for one of their talented youngsters after reaching an agreement this week.
Manchester United are currently sixth in the Premier League after 19 matches, but their season has been marked by inconsistency in both results and performances.
They ended 2025 on a disappointing note with a 1–1 draw against Wolves, a result that handed the league’s bottom side just their third point of the campaign.
While it remains unclear whether United will strengthen during the January transfer window, there is expected to be plenty of speculation surrounding potential departures. Joshua Zirkzee and Kobbie Mainoo have both found opportunities limited this season, with reports indicating the pair are keen to secure loan moves this month.
The club is also likely to assess its younger prospects, identifying which players would benefit most from temporary moves away from Old Trafford to gain valuable first-team experience.
United loan deal arranged for Kone this month
According to Swiss outlet SFM Football, Lausanne-Sport and Manchester United have reached an agreement on a loan deal for Sekou Kone.
Kone, 19, will spend the rest of the season at the INEOS-owned club after he was closely monitored last summer. Discussions took place in recent weeks and the two parties have agreed on the loan.
The report claimed that Kone is expected in Lausanne in the first week of January to sign his contracts and start training with the Swiss Super League side.
After joining United in the summer of 2024, Kone has been impressing in the club’s Under-21s side and also looked sharp when playing with the first-team during the post-season tour of Asia last summer.
He now looks set for his first loan spell where he can get competitive minutes at a professional level. Fellow United youngster Enzo Kana-Biyik is also on loan at Lausanne-Sport
Kone injury impacted his season
When it was decided that Kone would not be heading out on loan last summer, many fans believed that he was closing in on a potential place in the first-team. He has been described as a ‘high potential’ player by Travis Binnion.
But after suffering a head injury early in the campaign for the Under-21s, he has only recently returned to action and doesn’t seem like he’s being considered by Amorim.

A loan move does feel like the correct move for the midfielder although it remains to be seen whether Lausanne-Sport is the correct destination for him.
The INEOS-owned side will almost guarantee Kone game-time but some may argue that he should be loaned to a more competitive environment to ready himself for life at Old Trafford.
