“Absolutely not…” – Ruben Amorim urged to make U-turn on Manchester United sale after Benjamin Sesko joins

Ruben Amorim has been urged to make a U-turn on one potential Manchester United sale after the expected arrival of Benjamin Sesko.

Manchester United have taken a major step forward in their pursuit of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko by submitting a formal bid worth £65 million, with a potential £9 million in add-ons.

This move supports Ruben Amorim’s ambition to secure a top-class centre-forward this summer, complementing recent signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

Newcastle were also firmly in the race, having made a £78 million offer for the 22-year-old Slovenian international earlier this week. Both clubs had reached preliminary agreements on personal terms with Sesko.

However, multiple reports now indicate that Sesko has opted to join United, turning down Newcastle despite their offer of Champions League football.

While a final agreement with Leipzig has yet to be completed, United are now leading the race and look set to land another exciting attacking talent.

Amorim urged to make U-turn on United sale

It has been regularly claimed that United would be open to selling Rasmus Højlund this summer if a striker was signed and now it looks like Sesko will be joining.

Højlund wants to stay at Old Trafford but he’d have to consider his options after the arrival of a big-money striker, especially ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

However, former United player Mikael Silvestre believes that United must avoid selling Højlund this summer even if Sesko comes in.

With a limited number of natural no.9s, Silvestre thinks that Højlund will bring the competition that Sekso needs next season and that United must make a U-turn on their plans for a potential sale despite bringing in another striker.

“Marcus Rashford has gone and there are not a lot of strikers around,” the 47-year-old said, as per TeamTalk.

Joshua Zirkzee is a different type of striker who doesn’t make those runs in behind the defence. He is another type of player for certain games, certain opposition.

“But no, you need competition, need quality, so I wouldn’t rush into sending Rasmus Hojlund out on loan if Sesko signs. Absolutely not.”

Sesko needs competition at United

Most fans would not mind if Højlund was sold this summer but it would be a shame if that moment came just as these quality attackers were being added to the squad.

The Dane’s potential has not vanished into thin air. He was dreadful last term but also relied on way too much. With players like Sesko, Mbeumo and Cunha at the club, Højlund would be allowed to develop like he should have done when he first joined.

The prospect of Sesko and Højlund both developing at Old Trafford is also an exciting thought, although it is understandable if United want to try and cash in on the latter after heavily investing in other options this summer.

Silvestre does make a good point though. Even though the likes of Cunha and Mbeumo will aid Sesko, they are not direct competition for him and that’s something Højlund has lacked at the club. He could be the one to provide it for the new man.
