One manager has delivered a strong response to links with the Manchester United job following the sacking of Ruben Amorim.
Ruben Amorim was sacked by Manchester United following a run of below-par results and escalating internal issues.
The Reds were held by rivals Leeds United in the Premier League over the weekend, extending a poor spell that has seen them collect just one win from their last five matches. Even so, United currently sit sixth in the league table.
Amorim was reportedly under growing pressure from within the club to rethink his tactical setup. The situation intensified after the game at Elland Road, where he made an outspoken statement, emphasising that he was the manager and not simply a head coach.
That stance is said to have created tension with senior figures at the club, including Jason Wilcox, whom Amorim allegedly told to focus on his own responsibilities. This internal power struggle and breakdown in communication ultimately resulted in the Portuguese coach’s dismissal.
Manager delivers strong response to United links
While United are not set to appoint a permanent replacement for Amorim until the summer, there have already been several managers linked with the role.
Eddie Howe is among those being rumoured with the Old Trafford job but he has reiterated his dedication to Newcastle this week.
Speaking to the media this week, Howe said: “Yes, absolutely. Nothing has changed from my perspective
“I’m 100 per cent here, working as hard as I can, head down, ignoring all the stuff that you guys write good or bad because it’s irrelevant.
“It’s about today’s work and trying to prepare the team as well as we can for Leeds, so that will never change from my perspective, my commitment to my work and my job.
“As long as I’m happy and able to express myself in the best way that I can to help the team, nothing will change.”
United permanent manager rumours are just noise
Even though there has been a lot of noise about the permanent manager role, that is exactly what it is right now: noise.
The club haven’t even decided who is going to take charge for the rest of the season, with the likes of Michael Carrick and Ole Gunnar Solskjær is consideration for the caretaker role.
Once that decision is made, United may start to move forward in their work to find a long-term head coach but that isn’t the case right now.
