“Absolutely confirmed” – Man Utd could sign £61 million World Cup winning midfielder
Manchester United’s interest in Brighton midfielder Alexis MacAllister ahead of the summer transfer window is ‘absolutely confirmed’ according to reports.
The Reds will be eager to improve upon their squad yet again in the summer with a midfielder amongst their targets.
Signings of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro last year bolstered the squad’s options in the engine room, however, both players have had extended periods out of the team this term due to injuries and suspension.
Improving the quality in depth would be a step forward in the process under Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford and United are planning ahead for the summer window.
The Reds are interested in World Cup-winning midfielder MacAllister, who shone during Argentina’s triumph last year.
Argentinian reporter Cesar Luis Merlo has stated that United’s interest in the 24-year-old is concrete, with two other Premier League clubs also vying for the star whose price is set just above £60 million.
“The interest of Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool in Alexis MacAllister is absolutely confirmed,” he said.
“What I can (also) confirm is that two out of these three (clubs) are already advancing to try and buy him in the summer.
“The price that is talked about is £61 million.”
It would be a significant purchase in a summer where United are eagerly looking to purchase a world-class number nine, with both Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen considered as options.
MacAllister joined The Seagulls from Boca Juniors in January 2020 and has since emerged as one of the most impressive midfielders in the Premier League.
The midfielder has been a crucial cog for Brighton this season as they aim to finish in European spots. He has 10 goals and two assists for his club so far this season.
