Aaron Wan-Bissaka has reportedly rejected a move to West Ham this summer, with a Serie A swap deal being “discussed” by intermediaries.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka joined Manchester United in the summer of 2019 from Crystal Palace for a reported fee of £50 million. He quickly established himself as a reliable right-back under Ole Gunnar Solskjær, distinguished by his exceptional tackling ability and defensive prowess.

Wan-Bissaka’s career has been marked by his standout one-on-one defensive skills. He effectively neutralised threats from top opposing wingers such as Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling, earning him the nickname “The Spider” for his long legs and tackling reach.

Despite his defensive strengths, Wan-Bissaka has often faced criticism for his lack of offensive contributions at United. To date, he has scored two goals and provided 13 assists in 190 appearances for the Old Trafford side.

As the modern game increasingly demands full-backs to be effective in attack, Wan-Bissaka’s crossing and overall attacking play have been scrutinized. Comparisons with other right-backs in the league, such as Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Chelsea’s Reece James, often highlight a gap in attacking output.

In recent seasons, Wan-Bissaka has found himself playing a deputy role to Portuguese right-back Diogo Dalot, who has established himself as one of Erik ten Hag’s most trustworthy stars. Dalot often acts as a lieutenant to captain Bruno Fernandes, further limiting Wan-Bissaka’s opportunities to shine in the starting lineup.

There have been recent links between Wan-Bissaka and Premier League side West Ham, but according to The Athletic, the English right-back has now rejected the move.

Further, the report states that Wan-Bissaka is warming to the idea of signing for Serie A giants Inter Milan and that intermediaries have discussed the likelihood of a potential swap deal being on the cards.

It is stated that intermediaries are discussing a potential swap that would see Wan-Bissaka move to Inter and Denzel Dumfries join United, though this possibility is not yet in advanced stages.

Dumfries has been a long-term target of Erik ten Hag at United, with the pair familiar with each other following Dumfries’ success in the Eredivisie and national team.

United would need to sign a new right-back should Wan-Bissaka depart, and this swap deal could prove to be the most efficient for all parties.
