“A big benefit…” Erik ten Hag names seven ways Joshua Zirkzee will impact Manchester United
On Sunday afternoon, Manchester United confirmed that they had signed Serie A striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna in a reported £36 million transfer.
Joshua Zirkzee became Manchester United‘s first signing of the INEOS era, following clear signs that the club needed to strengthen Erik ten Hag‘s options at striker.
With Anthony Martial departing the club after nine years at Old Trafford, Rasmus Højlund, 21, became the club’s only centre-forward. Reinforcements were necessary.

Signing for £36 million, Zirkzee will likely become the club’s new No. 9 after Martial vacated the number.
Many have been wondering what type of impact Zirkzee will have at United, especially with respect to Højlund’s growth, but considering their vastly different profiles, fans will have a lot to look forward to.
Speaking following United’s 1-0 pre-season loss against Rosenborg, Ten Hag listed seven traits Zirkzee possesses which make him an ideal signing for the club going forwards
“He is a player who can link up the game,” Ten Hag told newspaper reporters in Norway on Monday evening. “Who can be available, hold up the ball, have good ideas, be creative, can dribble, [make] combinations.
“So that’s a different type and always what we are looking for, so it gives us more options tactically, which is good because, especially up front, we have many players who can play very direct, and they can take a big benefit from his skills.”
Zirkzee himself explained that he is buzzing to sign for the Red Devils. “Having had discussions with the manager and the leaders of the club, I know how exciting the future is going to be here, and I cannot wait to play my part in achieving success for Manchester United.
“I am a player who has always dedicated everything to winning; I’m ready for this next challenge, to go to another level in my career and win more trophies.
“It is a privilege to join such an iconic club. I have to take a short break now after being with the national team, but I’ll be coming back ready to make an impact straight away.”
