Manchester United have reportedly added one of Brentford’s young stars to their summer transfer target list after his brilliant performance last weekend.
Manchester United’s performance and result against Brentford last weekend may be their most damning yet amid continued problems under Rúben Amorim.
Although the loss against Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup was a shocking and rather telling result, the fixture against Brentford saw United’s head coach completely outclassed by Keith Andrews, despite it being the latter’s first-ever season as a manager.
United were 2-0 down within 20 minutes in West London, and although Benjamin Šeško grabbed a goal back before half-time and Brentford should have seen Nathan Collins sent off in the second half, the performance was still a poor one.
Individual errors, such as Bruno Fernandes missing a penalty and Altay Bayındır being poor for Brentford’s third, also cost the side, but the general consensus has been that Amorim’s formation has been found out far too many times this season.
United eyeing possible Yarmoliuk transfer
Amid United’s loss against Brentford, the club have reportedly added Yehor Yarmoliuk to their list of possible transfer targets for the 2026 summer transfer window.
According to CaughtOffside, both United and Tottenham are keen on the player, with Aston Villa, Borussia Dortmund, and Napoli also said to be tracking the 21-year-old Ukrainian star.
Yarmoliuk, who is rated at a price of around £30 million, ran the show in midfield when United came to down last week.
Having 60 touches, he made seven recoveries in the middle park, completing 36 of his 48 attempted passes, also winning four of his six duels. He also grabbed an assist for Mathias Jensen’s strike in extra time.
United’s transfer strategy could change with a new manager
Amid the growing pressure on Amorim and the possibility that he could be replaced in the coming months, there’s a real chance that the club’s transfer strategy could change in the next few weeks.
United currently play with two players in the middle of the park, with Amorim scouring the market for a new first-choice defensive midfielder that can play alongside Bruno Fernandes, with Carlos Baleba the current top choice.
But, if United’s next manager adopts a different system, especially one with a midfield three, then the players the club may want to bring in could change.
However, there is little doubt that whoever manages United’s first-team squad ahead of next season will still want to bring in some midfielders, with the futures of Manuel Ugarte and Bruno Fernandes in question, and Casemiro’s contract set to expire in June 2026.
