Manchester United are looking to sign some talented forward players this summer and Rayan Cherki is among the reported targets at Old Trafford.
Manchester United are looking to bolster their attacking options in the upcoming summer transfer window following a season marked by struggles in front of goal.
The club has identified Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap as potential signings, with both players offering valuable Premier League experience.
At the same time, Ruben Amorim’s side is also exploring more cost-effective additions, and Rayan Cherki has emerged as a fitting candidate. The Lyon attacker is expected to be available for less than £20 million this summer.
Cherki made a strong impression against United in their Europa League clash, scoring twice over the two legs despite Lyon ultimately suffering a dramatic defeat. Overall, he has 12 goals and 20 assists this term.
Cherki sends biggest clue about his future
Once again, Cherki impressed on Saturday evening during Lyon’s 2-0 win over Angers in their final Ligue 1 game of the season.
The United target grabbed the assist for Alexandre Lacazette’s second goal of the night. He created five chances in the game too, and also completed four dribbles.
Before the game the 21-year-old spoke about his future and while he did not confirm a summer exit, his words felt like a goodbye for many Lyon supporters.
Those feelings were proven correct when Cherki came off against Angers in the final minutes of the game. He was in tears heading off the pitch, a clue which essentially confirms he will be leaving the French club this summer.
Reports in the last week have claimed that United have been contacted by the player’s agent, but there has not been any claims about what the Old Trafford club are planning to do.
United must react and look to sign Cherki
Amorim’s side have witnessed Cherki’s talents first-hand this season and there seems to be very few downsides to this deal.
Paying less than £20 million for such a player is a no-brainer decision for a United team in their current form. It adds much-needed attacking depth and quality for a small price which allows the club to focus more funds elsewhere.
Of course you want additional signings in the frontline too, such as Cunha, but there is a need for more than just one or two players to come into the attack this summer.
It’s also apparent that Cherki’s playstyle seems to suit the no.10 roles in Amorim’s system very well. United need to take action with this deal soon and see if they can get a deal over the line, because there will undoubtably be other clubs interested too.
