41 passes, 8 duels won – Manchester United loanee continues to shine, he’s proving Ruben Amorim’s decision wrong

One Manchester United loanee is continuing to shine and proving that Ruben Amorim’s decision to loan him out might have been wrong.

Manchester United had an active summer transfer window, securing four new first-team signings, with Senne Lammens joining on deadline day.

The club also oversaw several notable departures, including Alejandro Garnacho’s move to Chelsea and Antony’s transfer to Real Betis, after both were deemed surplus to Ruben Amorim’s long-term plans.

United were equally busy in the loan market, sending out a number of academy players to gain valuable first-team experience elsewhere.

This summer also marked a new chapter for Jonny Evans, who, after retiring from playing, was appointed as the club’s Head of Loans and Pathways. Under his guidance, 14 academy prospects have gone out on loan for the current campaign.

United loanee Amass continues to shine

One of the last loan moves confirmed in the summer window was Harry Amass‘ departure to Sheffield Wednesday, and that raised some eyebrows among fans.

Wednesday are in a problematic position in the Championship due to their financial woes and it is a difficult environment for a young player to enter, although Amass has been shining at the Hillsborough Stadium.

The United loanee has settled in quickly under Henrik Pedersen and while they lost 1-0 against Middlesborough this week, Amass once again produced a solid performance.

Amass played 90 minutes and completed 41 of his 45 attempted passes, with six of those entering the final third. He also created two chances for his team.

The youngster was dominant defensively too; with five tackles, two interceptions and eight duels won throughout the clash.

Amass proving Amorim’s decision wrong

United decided to send Amass out on loan shortly after Diego Leon joined the club in the summer, with the new addition impressing Ruben Amorim during pre-season.

Even though Amass had proven he could contribute in the first-team, it seemed like Amorim decided that he would be best off getting consistent minutes in the Championship while Leon challenged Patrick Dorgu at Old Trafford.

But it has since been proven that Leon isn’t quite ready for the first-team as he has been struggling in the club’s Under-21s, which means that Diogo Dalot is playing from the left side again.

Amass’ form suggests that Amorim may have made a mistake in loaning him out as he could have provided genuine quality from the left flank.

However, the consistent minutes the academy star is getting at Wednesday is also going to help him for the future, and he will hopefully return to Old Trafford next season with a chance of challenging for a space in the team
