39 touches, MOTM – “Superb” Man Utd loanee stuns fans with debut performance, he might prove Ruben Amorim wrong

One “superb” Manchester United loanee has stunned his new fans with a Man of the Match debut performance and he could be about to prove Ruben Amorim wrong.

Manchester United have been busy in the transfer market this summer, with their main three bits of business being signings in the attacking line.

Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko have all joined the club with the purpose of improving the underwhelming goalscoring department.

Ruben Amorim will be pleased with that but the Reds are still looking for improvements in other areas of the pitch, including at goalkeeper.

André Onana is currently injured and Altay Bayındır has been playing during pre-season but it has been made clear that the club would prefer a new and improved no.2 option to compete with Onana.

That signing is yet to be made and while some fans assumed that 21-year-old Radek Vitek would get that chance, he has instead been sent on loan to Bristol City.

Superb Vitek stuns fans with debut performance

Vitek came through the academy at Carrington and started well for Bristol City, saving a penalty in his first pre-season appearance.

But a stern test came up on the opening day of the Championship against Sheffield United, who blitzed The Robins in the Play-Offs earlier this year.

City shocked their opponents on the day and came out as 4-1 victors to place themselves at the top of the table after gameweek one.

It is unusual to see a goalkeeper stand out when his team wins by that scoreline but Vitek received the Man of the Match award after a solid performance between the sticks.

The United loanee had 39 touches of the ball, made five saves; four of which were diving; and also made two high claims.

Vitek’s ‘superb’ display earned him praise from the Bristol City faithful and it is clear that he is already finding himself at home on loan.

Vitek aiming to prove Amorim wrong

Considering many reports are suggesting that United want a young goalkeeper with talent to challenge Onana, it is surprising that Vitek was not considered.

Of course it is valuable for the Czech keeper to get consistent minutes in the Championship but testing him during pre-season could have given him a chance to showcase his talents to Amorim.

United could well sign a top goalkeeper to compete with Onana before the transfer window ends but Vitek will be aiming to try and prove Amorim’s decision wrong this season.

If his debut performance is anything to go by then the goalkeeper is going to do exactly that.
