16-year-old starlet Jim Thwaites has joined Manchester United’s first-team training for the first time this week.
Thwaites was part of a 10-man first-year scholars intake in the academy at United this summer, alongside the likes of Amir Ibragimov and Bendito Mantato.
Erik ten Hag regularly looks to bring talented youth players into his training squad. Usually, they will return to the youth teams, but certain players will occasionally remain with the first team.
On his Instagram story on Wednesday afternoon, 16-year-old Thwaites posted, “Good first session with the first team!”

He is one of the most highly-rated players in the academy setup at Carrington and would have been keen to impress. He is only one year younger than Harry Amass, who is now a mainstay in the first-team training squad.
The attacking player made nine appearances for the league-winning Under-18s side last season and even played twice for the Under-21s in the PL2.
In a game against Derby County’s U18s in February, Thwaites made a positive impact off the bench. He netted at the last minute to secure a draw. That would go on to win the Goal of the Season award.
Recently, the young talent re-signed with Adidas and will be looking to be an essential player for the Under-18s this season under Adam Lawrence.
There are several talented youngsters to keep an eye on this term, such as Jack Fletcher, who starred for the Under-21s this week in their 3-2 win over Barnsley in the EFL Trophy.
He scored two late goals to complete the comeback victory, one being an outstanding volley from distance and the other a smart finish at the near post.
