Zirkzee, Lacey, Mbeumo: Man Utd team news vs West Ham as Rúben Amorim sweating over ‘key player’ (pre-season)

Rúben Amorim has a few injury concerns as his Manchester United squad travels to the United States for a two-week period, where they will play against West Ham.

Manchester United are embarking on the United States section of their pre-season tour as Rúben Amorim continues to prepare for his first full season as the first-team head coach.

United’s first of five pre-season fixtures ended with a 0-0 draw against Leeds United in Stockholm, Sweden, although there were plenty of promising performances from the likes of Leny Yoro, Kobbie Mainoo, and new signing Matheus Cunha.

Amorim’s men will next be taking on Graham Potter’s West Ham in New Jersey as part of the Premier League Summer Series, which also features Everton and Bournemouth.

United will be based in Chicago for the 10-day duration of their stay in the US, where they will play the three other participating teams before flying back to Manchester to face David de Gea’s Fiorentina at Old Trafford, one week before the season kicks off.

United’s latest injury news

While Amorim took a 29-man squad to Stockholm to face Leeds, a few of his first-team members stayed behind after picking up minor knocks during training.

Joshua Zirkzee missed out on the trip due to a minor injury, but those within Carrington have clarified that it’s a small issue and should not affect his attendance in the USA.

André Onana also stayed behind after picking up a hamstring tear in the first week of training, but has responded well to treatment and could recover in time to feature next month. Lisandro Martínez has also been spotted working hard in the gym as he recovers from an ACL injury in February.

Meanwhile, there is also minor concern for Harry Maguire. Amorim still sees the head coach as a key player in his squad and came on for the second-half XI against Leeds, but was replaced by Tyler Fredricson just 18 minutes later, with little news about his condition since.

It is also unclear if 18-year-old Shea Lacey will be able to travel to the United States after picking up an injury just prior to the Leeds tie.

Mbeumo set for debut against West Ham

United have recently completed the signing of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford for an initial fee of £65 million, rising to £71 million with add-ons.

Mbeumo has been at United’s Carrington training base over the weekend after signing a five-year deal with the club until 2030, with United retaining the option to extend this by a further season.

The Cameroon international will fly with his new teammates to the United States on Tuesday and is expected to make his unofficial debut when the club face West Ham at 00:00 BST on Sunday morning.

He will be able to spend around four weeks adjusting to his new surroundings and Amorim’s demanding style of play, and will likely start the club’s first official game of the season, against Arsenal on 17 August.
