Rúben Amorim is predicted to make a major change to his front line as Manchester United line up to face Tottenham in the Europa League final on Wednesday evening.
Manchester United are set for a massive clash with Tottenham in the Europa League final, taking place in Bilbao on Wednesday night.
Despite going eight Premier League matches without a win, Rúben Amorim’s side have lit up Europe with a string of impressive performances.
They finished third in the league phase and breezed past Real Sociedad in the round of 16, winning 5-2 on aggregate thanks to a brilliant second-leg hat-trick from Bruno Fernandes.
The quarter-final against Lyon was a thriller. After a 2-2 draw in France, United took a 2-0 lead at Old Trafford, only to fall 4-2 behind—before launching a stunning comeback, scoring three times in seven minutes through Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, and Harry Maguire.
In the semi-finals, they made no mistake, beating Athletic Club 3-0 away and 4-1 at home to book their place in the final. Now, only Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs stand in their way of European glory.
Amorim to make one major change against Spurs
Amorim chose to field a strong starting XI when United faced Chelsea last week, and all indications are that a similar team will face Tottenham. However, there is one major change that Amorim could choose to make during the final.
André Onana is expected to start in goal, and although Leny Yoro has returned from injury, the odds of him playing from the off are slim. This means that United may go with the same back three that faced Chelsea, with Victor Lindelöf, Maguire, and Luke Shaw ahead of the goalkeeper.
Although Diogo Dalot has also returned, Amorim mentioned on Tuesday evening that his minutes are limited, meaning Noussair Mazraoui is more likely to start as the right wing-back, with Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu on the left flank.
In midfield, Casemiro is certain to start, and considering Manuel Ugarte’s poor form of late, Fernandes may play alongside the Brazilian rather than as part of the front three.
The attack is where Amorim may choose to make a big change. Although Amad is a sure-fire selection on the right-hand side, the head coach may opt to change Mason Mount for Alejandro Garnacho, with the latter mostly rested against Chelsea.
Mount has proved he can be a very effective asset of the bench, while Garnacho has had more rhythm and time in the starting XI, with consistency set to play a key part for the winning side.
Although his poor performances of late have seen fans call for the player to be dropped for the final, Rasmus Højlund is set to start up front as he is the only available striker. Joshua Zirkzee has returned from injury but is not fit to play from the start.
United predicted XI vs Tottenham
Onana, Lindelöf, Maguire, Shaw, Mazraoui, Casemiro, Fernandes, Dorgu, Amad, Højlund, Garnacho.
