Manchester United recorded a 3-2 win over Fulham, with Steve Bruce being particularly impressed by one United star’s finish against the away side.
Manchester United claimed a thrilling late victory on Sunday as Benjamin Šeško struck in the dying moments to secure a dramatic 3–2 Premier League win over Fulham.
United made an energetic start, with early chances for Amad and Harry Maguire both denied, while Senne Lammens was forced into a sharp save at the opposite end. The deadlock was broken just before the 20-minute mark when Casemiro rose highest at the back post to nod Bruno Fernandes’ pinpoint free kick into the net.
The hosts went into half-time 1–0 ahead, but Fulham emerged with renewed purpose after the interval. United doubled their advantage through a superb strike from Matheus Cunha, yet Raúl Jiménez responded by converting a penalty he had earned himself. As stoppage time ticked away, Kevin produced a stunning effort to haul Fulham level at 2–2.
Just as the match appeared destined for a draw, substitute Šeško delivered a sensational late winner, sparking celebrations at Old Trafford. The victory made it three wins from three for Michael Carrick and kept United firmly entrenched in the top four.
Steve Bruce on Cunha’s excellent goal
In Carrick’s first two games against Man City and Arsenal, Cunha saw himself as a substitute option, with Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu being the preferred option, scoring in both fixtures.
Unfortunately, the 21-year-old was forced off against Arsenal in the 81st minute, with it later being confirmed that the Danish international would be sidelined for up to ten weeks with a hamstring injury.
As a result, the Brazilian earned his first start under the new interim boss, topping off a great performance with an impressive finish into the roof of the net past Bernd Leno in the Fulham goal.
Speaking on the 26-year-old’s finish, Steve Bruce said: “What a wonderful goal. Great pass and a wonderful finish from Matheus Cunha. He is on an angle, and he hits it right above the goalkeeper. Great goal from Man United.”
United fixing their goal-scoring issues
Last season, Manchester United ranked fifth bottom for goals scored, with a lowly return of 44 goals across the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.
As a result, Manchester United fully revamped their attacking line, bringing in Mbeumo, Cunha and Šeško to fix their problems going forward.

As a result of these changes, Manchester United now rank at the top of the league for expected goals and shots on target, yet were hindered by Ruben Amorim’s tactical setup, which led them to trail their xG by around nine goals.
Under Michael Carrick, the attack looks to have been given a new lease of life, consistently creating high-quality opportunities, as evidenced by the constant pressure on Arsenal’s defence, which forced many errors.
With Bruno Fernandes looking back to his best in his preferred position, Manchester United look like a much greater attacking threat, and it looks like Carrick will be able to extract much more goal-scoring threat from his forward line as the club’s push for Champions League football continues.
