Wolves boss Rob Edwards explains clear downfall to Ruben Amorim’s tactical approach ahead of Man Utd clash

Wolves’ new manager Rob Edwards has explained the clear downfall to Ruben Amorim’s tactical approach ahead of the game against Manchester United.

Manchester United are gearing up for one of their final away games of 2025, as Rúben Amorim prepares his squad for a Monday night meeting with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Rob Edwards’ side have endured a dismal season to this point, currently rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table with just two draws and ten losses from their first 14 fixtures.

United aren’t in ideal form either. Frustration continues to mount after another flat performance at Old Trafford, where they were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against 18th-placed West Ham on Thursday.

With the pressure increasing on Amorim to secure a Champions League finish and speculation growing about his long-term position, the trip to Wolves is now being viewed as a vital must-win match.

Edwards explains clear downfall to Amorim’s tactical approach

Under previous managers, you might be have seen various tactical approaches against different teams, but Amorim will keep working the same.

That can be viewed as a positive but it also allows other teams to prepare for exactly what United are going to bring, and that is exactly what Wolves boss Rob Edwards has pointed out.

“They’ve got loads of really good players,” he explained. “They’ll have a clear way of playing, and we’ll be able to have a really good look at it, but I need to focus on us, and I need to see us.

“We’ve got to turn up. We’ve got to expect the best Manchester United to turn up, and we have got to. I don’t want to see what we saw on Wednesday’s first half.”

Amorim cannot be defensive vs Wolves

On Saturday, we were able to see what a team could do when they almost threw their tactical plan out of the window. Aston Villa won with a last-minute goal against league-leaders Arsenal.

Emi Buendia scored the winning goal and he was brought on for a defender by Unai Emery. Amorim never seems to make these kind of changes.

He can not afford to be defensive with his substitutions or setup, especially against Wolves, who remain in the relegation zone.
