“Without a doubt…” – Ruben Amorim told his first priority with Man Utd squad before Ipswich clash
Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham has told Ruben Amorim what his first priority with the Manchester United squad should be.
Ruben Amorim officially began his role as Manchester United head coach on Monday, arriving at the Carrington training ground.
He was greeted by senior figures in the club’s football operations team, including Omar Berrada, Jason Wilcox, and Dan Ashworth.
Amorim’s first match in charge will be an away Premier League clash against Ipswich Town in just over a week.
While he has time to get used to his new surroundings, the new head coach will not have tons of time with his full squad due to the international break.
He will be hoping to implement his 3-4-3 formation in training before the visit to Ipswich but has also been told one key priority he must have.
Teddy Sheringham, who spent four years at Old Trafford between 1997 and 2001, believes that Amorim must get the correct work ethic back at the club.
The 58-year-old says that the amount of skill as a player will not build success but instead togetherness and working together will do – something he thinks has been lacking at the club in recent years.
“Ruben Amorim’s first priority at Manchester United is to get the work ethic back into Manchester United. Without a doubt,” Sheringham told Best Offshore Sportsbooks.
“It’s not about showing your skills and showing how good you are as a player. If you want to be successful, you need work ethic from the team, you need to understand as a player that everybody needs to help each other.
“Show a bit of passion and enthusiasm for the badge. These players have to realise how privileged they are to play for Manchester United.”
Amorim has shown his ability to build close relationships with his players in his short time at United and his experiences in Portugal with Sporting.
While Sheringham is right, the new head coach must also build a system which has everyone in tune and believing in the project. That is one of several ways to get players fighting for each other.
