Casemiro has issued a surprising statement about his season at Manchester United this term and it undoubtably shows his true colours.
Manchester United signed Casemiro in the summer of 2022 and the Brazilian has had an extremely interesting time at Old Trafford so far.
After pushing the Reds to a third-place finish and Carabao Cup glory in his debut campaign, many considered him as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
During his second season with the club, Casemiro struggled and was starting to be considered a flop and past his best years. It seemed inevitable that he would be moved on.
However, this term the Brazilian has fought back, gained the trust of Ruben Amorim and become one of the team’s most important players in their fight for Europa League glory.
Casemiro makes shock statement about United season
Casemiro is a legend of the game and has won five Champions League trophies. You would not think it when looking at how he is approaching this Europa League season. It looks like he’s hungrier than ever.
Those trophies all came at a period where the 33-year-old was viewed as one of the world’s best midfielders. This would be the first where he has come back from major scrutiny and criticism.
He believes that is worth a lot and has even made the surprise statement that this season has been “one of the most successful” of his career.
“This was one of the seasons I think I feel most proud of myself,” Casemiro told ESPN Brasil ahead of the Europa League final.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve been through a moment like this, where the coach doesn’t count on you, but you keep working, keep doing things well.
“Of course, you want to win titles, but one of the most successful seasons of my career, without a doubt, was this one. For turning things around, with hard work and dedication.”
Casemiro’s true colours shown
Casemiro’s true colours shine through here. You can be as successful as ever but sometimes it is being able to bounce back from perceived failure which makes you a top sportsman.
Some may look at the Brazilian’s time at Old Trafford – a Carabao Cup, FA Cup and potential Europa League – and think that it has nothing on his time at Madrid.

They are, of course, somewhat correct but it is clear that the player values his experience at Old Trafford so highly, despite there being many more lows than when he was in Spain.
Casemiro has been tested and challenged more than he probably ever was beforehand, and United fans will be hoping that he can top off one of his best seasons with another trophy.
