There is a chance Manchester United’s upcoming trip to Liverpool may be postponed due to a Sunday weather warning in the Merseyside area.

Manchester United will begin their 2025 journey with a trip to Anfield on Sunday afternoon, where they face Premier League leaders Liverpool in what is shaping up to be their toughest test of the season.

While Arne Slot’s Liverpool continue to dominate at the top of the table, United are floundering in 14th place, just seven points above the relegation zone. Manager Rúben Amorim has described this as one of the darkest chapters in the club’s recent history.

United’s struggles are reflected in their form, with five defeats in their last six league matches. They have suffered home losses to Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth, and Newcastle United, along with away defeats at Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Though a victory at Anfield seems improbable, it could offer United a glimmer of hope and a chance to reset as they aim to move past the disappointments of 2024 and start 2025 on a stronger footing.

Will Liverpool vs United be postponed?

As always happens in England, the temperature and weather plummets once the new year hits, with lows below zero degrees across the country.

While this forces many to choose to stay inside the warmth of their houses, the same cannot be said for footballers, who often don gloves and extra layers while playing to make sure they stave off the cold as much as they can during fixtures.

However, there sometimes comes a point where whether is so severe that the Premier League choose to postpone games, mainly if there is too much snow, if the ground is iced over or visibility is severely impacted due to either rain or fog.

As of Saturday morning, the Met Office have released an Amber snow and ice warning around the Merseyside area across Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, which may affect the game.

The fixture being postponed is unlikely, as stadiums often have in-built systems to stave off the effects that weather has on the grass and playing areas.

However, it is worth keeping an eye on the Met Office’s latest if you are attending Anfield.
