Both Thomas Frank and Rúben Amorim’s side have reason to be frustrated after a tight draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Rúben Amorim’s side came away with a point after a tough contest ending 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur.
An even first half was eventually broken as Bryan Mbeumo headed in the first goal of the game from a tidy Amad delivery, handing his side the advantage going into half-time.
The second half was a different story as Manchester United relied heavily upon their newest summer signing, Senne Lammens, to hold onto United’s lead. The Belgian kept the score at 1-0 until the 84th minute, when Mathys Tel’s quick turn and strike found the back of United’s net.
In the 91st minute, Richarlison surely thought he had sealed the three points for Spurs as he flicked a header onto Wilson Odobert’s strike, which made its way past Lammens, giving Spurs the advantage in the dying embers of the game.
But United had to look to arguably their best player this season, Matthijs de Ligt, to claw United back into the game as his 96th-minute header beat Guglielmo Vicario to secure a point for Amorim’s side, extending their run of five games unbeaten despite being forced to only 10 men as Benjamin Šeško limped off with an injury.
Spurs players were undoubtedly disappointed as the final whistle sounded, as their chance to capitalise on United’s injury issues wasn’t taken.
Dressing room chat reveals Spurs spark
When speaking to TNT Sports, Mathys Tel revealed the frustration surrounding the Spurs squad after they watched the “smart” De Ligt take two points from them.
“The feeling is 50-50. We conceded one goal, we were losing. Second half, our reaction was good, we changed the game.
“But we’re also mad because we had to win today. But this is football, we have to keep going and keep working.”
Thomas Frank’s substitutions were heavily responsible for their revival against United, they brought a new wave of excitement for the home side that United struggled to cope with.
“We were just told to bring new energy, we needed energy to change the game, and that’s what we did. We showed great mentality, we deserved to win this game.”
While Amorim will also be livid at the squad dropping two points after leading for most of the game, there is no denying that De Ligt has been incredible this season.
Man Utd and Spurs find themselves in similar positions
Both teams look to secure their spots in the Champions League this season following extremely disappointing Premier League performances last season.
United have found good form lately, and Spurs’ home struggles persist, despite their numerical advantage. Both camps have spent largely in the summer, and those signings have so far proven to be imperative to their sides from both an attacking and defensive perspective.
United can take positives out of the performance, but must also acknowledge the mistakes they made, learn from them and then take them into their next games.

United have an international break to assess their situation following this close tie before hosting Everton at Old Trafford, whose attacking threat could pose a serious threat to United, with Manchester City loanee Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye on top form.
Amorim has to take accountability for the issues faced against Spurs, because fans know how avoidable they were.
