Why Premier League club could be ‘forced’ into selling excellent star to Manchester United next year

A Premier League club could be ‘forced’ into selling one of their excellent players to Manchester United during next year’s summer transfer window.

Manchester United appear to be finding form after a shaky start to the season, with their summer signings beginning to influence the Premier League campaign.

During the last transfer window, United strengthened their frontline by bringing in three new attackers: Benjamin Šeško, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo.

The club also secured a deadline-day deal for goalkeeper Senne Lammens, though many supporters were disappointed that no defensive midfielder was signed.

According to reports, United are already preparing for next summer, with plans in place to recruit at least two midfielders, and the latest rumours suggest Joao Gomes is one of the players being considered.

Why Wolves could be ‘forced’ into selling excellent star to United

United’s interest in Wolves midfielder Gomes is not too surprising. He has previously been compared to Casemiro, whose contract at Old Trafford runs out at the end of the season.

It has also been reported that Wolves could be ‘forced’ into selling the Brazilian international to the Reds if they are relegated from the Premier League.

The midlands outfit are currently rock bottom of the Premier League table and have just sacked Vítor Pereira as their manager.

“Yeah, look, there’s a long list of midfielders that Manchester United are looking at right now,” transfer expert Pete O’Rourke said on Football Insider.

“Joao Gomes is the latest name to be added to that list. Again, Premier League proven as well, which is a key thing for Manchester United in their transfer policy right now.

“The key to this one could be if Wolves suffer relegation. They will be forced into sales if they are forced to drop into the championship. Joao Gomes will want to continue playing at the highest level as well.

“If Wolves do suffer relegation from the Premier League, it could make a deal easier to do due to price tag and obviously the player looking to play at the highest level possible with Wolves probably being forced to cash in on their best players if they do go down.”

United looking for Premier League experience

Signing a player like Gomes could be a good move for United, who are starting to prioritise Premier League experience in their recruitment.

The additions of Cunha and Mbeumo in the latest summer window shows how useful that experience can be for United.

Gomes is not the only Premier League midfielder the club are eyeing, with the likes of Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton all on United’s radar too.
