Manchester United must walk away from an “exciting” striker as Rúben Amorim looks to complete their front line ahead of the new campaign.
It has been no secret that Manchester United are desperate to eradicate their goalscoring woes from last season as they try to complete their brand new front three.
Ruben Amorim’s side have already acquired Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha to operate in the wide 10 roles, but they are yet to find a striker to slot in between the pair.
In the Premier League last season, United scored a subpar 44 goals, with their two strikers, Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee, only mustering seven of these.
Despite it being well known that the Red Devils are seeking a new striker, they haven’t made any concrete advancements yet. However, Amorim must look to steer well clear of one option, who earns close to £400,000 per week.
United warned about Vlahovic’s wages
Having spent over £130 million on both Cunha and Mbeumo, United are operating with a limited budget for the remainder of the window, which could see them move for Dusan Vlahovic.
The 25-year-old striker is available for transfer due to falling down the pecking order at Juventus, but could even leave on a free as the Old Lady are desperate to get him off the wage bill. Amorim’s club have already been offered the chance to sign the “exciting” striker this summer.
Despite a free transfer clearly favouring the Red Devils, it may not be as smart a move as it seems due to Vlahovic’s current wages.
ESPN explain, via United in Focus, that the Serbian striker is earning close to £400,000 per week, which Juventus can’t afford.
Why United must steer clear
United’s new wage structure looks to exterminate some of their extortionate wage bill, which is why they need to avoid Juventus’ want-away striker at all costs.
Vlahovic has scored 43 goals and 11 assists in 104 appearances in Serie A for Juventus, which isn’t the record of such an expensive striker.

Given that it is clear the Serbian wasn’t a priority for United this summer, a last resort option should never be a player who demands more than their key players.
With Mbeumo and Cunha earning no more than £350,000 per week combined, it would be a sign of complete desperation if the Reds abandoned their wage structure for a striker who doesn’t guarantee any progression.
