Why Manchester United are no longer in race for Sverre Nypan despite Old Trafford “dream” claims

Manchester United are reportedly no longer interested in signing Norwegian wonderkid Sverre Nypan from Rosenborg.

Ruben Amorim has already faced many challenges during his time at Manchester United and the need for reinforcements is clear.

Securing a left-wingback remains a top priority and there are several other areas which need additions. However, the club needs to sell players to raise funds for any new signings.

INEOS are also eager to sign some of the best youngsters to help improve the team for the future after bringing in players like Leny Yoro and Sekou Kone last summer.

United exit race for Nypan despite “dream” claims

United have been heavily linked to Sverre Nypan ever since they faced the Norwegian talent in a pre-season friendly last summer.

“I’ve always been a Manchester United fan,” Nypan admitted in 2023. “Then of course there is Real Madrid. I’m a big [Cristiano] Ronaldo fan. It’s very unrealistic, but it’s the dream.”

However, according to a new report from TV2, the Reds are no longer in the race for Nypan’s signature despite their long-standing interest in the player.

Instead, it was explained that Premier League rivals Manchester City and Arsenal are among the teams eyeing the teenager alongside other clubs within Europe.

Nypan will cost any team around £10 million and the report added that the midfielder’s representatives are hoping for a decision to be confirmed in the next few weeks.

Why United are no longer interested in Nypan

Questions have been raised about United’s decision to move away from a deal for the talented Nypan, especially since INEOS are focused on bringing in the best young talent.

However, there are likely a couple of reasons behind the decision and one is probably based around the fact that Nypan’s team wants the move to be confirmed in January.

United are in need of improving Amorim’s first-team this month and spending £10 million on a youngster, who will probably not have an immediate effect in the Premier League, is unlikely right now.

It may have been different if the Reds were able to wait until the summer to make a decision but Nypan already has many admirers who are seemingly willing to act right now.

You must also recognise that United’s position in the table will impact their chances of signing players, especually when they are being chased by clubs in the Champions League.

It worked when the Reds convinced Leny Yoro to join over Real Madrid but United remain in the bottom half of the Premier League and that isn’t entirely attractive to potential signings.

That is one of the main reasons why the form in the Premier League must improve for Amorim’s side, with the upcoming summer transfer window being crucial for the club.
