Why Luke Shaw and Altay Bayındır are missing from Manchester United’s squad vs Wolves after injury worry emerges

The reason why Luke Shaw has not been selected in Manchester United’s matchday squad to face Wolves has been confirmed after injury worries emerged.

Manchester United are set to resume Premier League action on Sunday afternoon, welcoming Wolverhampton Wanderers to Old Trafford.

Rúben Amorim’s last game saw United pull off an exciting 7-6 aggregate win over Olympique Lyonnais at Old Trafford, securing a place in the Europa League semi-finals, where they will face Athletic Bilbao.

Amorim will also be eager to get revenge against Vitor Pereira’s Wolves, who handed United a 2-0 defeat in December, with goals from Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-Chan.

The 40-year-old manager will look to build on the momentum from that thrilling win over Lyon as they return to domestic action.

Why Shaw is not in United’s squad vs Wolves

When United announced the line-up that Amorim had chosen to face Wolves, many were happy to see the Academy influence.

Tyler Fredricson had been selected to make his debut while Harry Amass was making his second start for the club and first at Old Trafford, while young striker Chido Obi was selected on the bench.

However, it did not take long for fans to realise that Luke Shaw, who played 75 minutes against Lyon in midweek, was not in the squad at all, with many worried that the English defender had picked up yet another injury.

But, the club have now confirmed that the player is not injured but has simply been rested. He trained at Carrington on Sunday morning, with Amorim keen to manage the 29-year-old’s minutes ahead of the Europa League semi-finals next month.

Why is Bayındır not in the squad either?

Another point made by many fans is that second-choice goalkeeper Altay Bayındır was also not spotted with the side, as Tom Heaton was selected to sit on the bench instead.

The Turkish goalkeeper was not spotted with the squad when they arrived at Old Trafford on Sunday morning, with André Onana alongside Heaton and Academy goalkeeper Dermott Mee.

However, it has since been confirmed that Bayındır was not included after picking up a small injury in training, and has been left out of the side as a precaution.

Bayındır has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford of late, with the 27-year-old looking for first-team action after just seven appearances in two seasons at the club.
