Why Kobbie Mainoo and Leny Yoro are not in Manchester United’s 2025/26 Premier League squad list

Manchester United have announced the 21 members who have been selected to be part of their 21-man squad list for the 2025/26 Premier League season.

After guiding Manchester United through the final six months of last season, Rúben Amorim’s first full campaign has started inconsistently, with one win, one draw, and two defeats in the opening weeks of 2025/26.

The season began with a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal, a match that still offered signs of promise. A dull 1-1 draw away at Fulham came next, before United endured embarrassment in the Carabao Cup, going out to League Two side Grimsby Town on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

Their first victory arrived soon after against Burnley, secured by Bruno Fernandes’ late penalty in a dramatic 3-2 win.

Following the international break, Amorim takes his side to the Etihad for a derby clash with Manchester City, hoping for a far sharper display.

Why Mainoo and Yoro are not in senior squad list

Manchester United have only selected 21 of a possible 25 for the senior squad list, with notable absentees including Kobbie Mainoo, Leny Yoro, and Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, despite being bonafide first-team players.

Amorim has multiple talented but young senior first-team players, which means they can be placed in the U21 list instead of taking up a space in the senior squad list.

Although Mainoo and Yoro, among others are not included in the senior squad list, it does not affect their ability to play for United. There are 59 players across the two lists, although 12 such U21 players are on loan.
