Christian Eriksen and Leny Yoro were among the players not named in the Manchester United squad to face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United return to Premier League action with a crucial showdown against Tottenham Hotspur in North London.

The two sides recently played out a thrilling encounter at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season, where Spurs edged a dramatic 4-3 victory to eliminate Ruben Amorim’s side from the Carabao Cup.

Now, they meet again in the league, both desperate for a win to revive their respective struggling campaigns.

It has been a frustrating season for both teams, who currently sit 14th and 15th in the table, with United holding a slim two-point advantage over their hosts.

Given the lofty expectations surrounding both clubs, this fixture carries significance in their bid to get back on track.

For Amorim, Sunday presents another opportunity to build momentum at United, with the team having won six of their last eight games. Meanwhile, Ange Postecoglou faces increasing pressure, as Spurs fans grow more impatient with their side’s ongoing struggles this season.

Why Eriksen and Yoro are absent for United vs Spurs

Ahead of the game, Amorim’s team was confirmed and it was quickly noticed that neither Leny Yoro or Christian Eriksen were in the squad.

Other absences such as Amad and Kobbie Mainoo were no surprise after reports earlier this week, but Eriksen and Yoro were expected to be in the squad.

Shortly after the lineups were confirmed, it was reported that the pair were missing the game due to illness.

This has left United extremely short and Amorim only has one senior player on the bench for the North London clash.

Victor Lindelöf will be sitting alongside Elyh Harrison, Harry Amass, Tyler Fredricson, Jack Fletcher, Sekou Kone, Jack Moorhouse, Chido Obi and new signing Ayden Heaven.

Young stars could lift United’s mood

United fans would’ve seen this game as a good opportunity for the team to get three points as Spurs are perhaps the only team underperforming as much as the Reds are.

However, with the injury and illness troubles suffered over the last few days, which includes Amad being unavailable for the rest of the season, the mood is even more dim than before.

Perhaps the only way to improve the mood is to see one of the exciting youngsters on the bench make an impact at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The likes of Obi and Moorhouse are heavily rated and could end up getting the chance to impress on the big stage on Sunday afternoon.
