Why Casemiro could earn six-figure wage increase if Manchester United win the Europa League

If they win the Europa League, Casemiro could earn a pay rise that would see him close to matching Cristiano Ronaldo’s package from his second stint at Manchester United.

Manchester United’s Europa League campaign has been one of very few bright spots of a very disappointing 2024/25 campaign for the Reds.

United find themselves with one foot in the final, following an impressive 3-0 win over Athletic club in the first leg of their semi-final clash.

One player that has been a stand-out in the Europa League knock-out phase has been Casemiro. He was pivotal in both their dramatic 2nd leg comeback over Olympique Lyon in the quarter-final, notching three assists, and in the first leg of the semi-final, scoring the opener.

The Brazilian would be set for a major pay rise should his performances help United triumph in the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League next season.

Eye-watering wage increase for Casemiro

Casemiro is set for a significant wage increase if United were to lift the trophy. The 33-year-old has a clause in his contract that guarantees him a 25% salary boost if the club were to qualify for the Champions League.

According to the Daily Star, the Brazilian, already being on a staggering £400,000 a week, would be due for a £100,000-a-week pay rise, bringing his total weekly earnings to £500,000, the same amount Cristiano Ronaldo was getting during his second stint at Old Trafford.

Casemiro transferred to United from Real Madrid in 2022 at a time when United weren’t in Europe’s elite competition.

With Sir Jim Ratcliffe pushing Ruben Amorim to slash the wage bill going into next season, this could cause a problem for the manager, as the financial impact of this may force United to sell the Brazilian who has redeemed himself this season.

What next for Casemiro?

It’s safe to say that Casemiro’s three seasons at Old Trafford have been inconsistent, but he has recently managed to regain top form, especially in the Europa League.

Without his exploits, it’s reasonable to say that United wouldn’t have reached the semi-finals of the Europa League, but the £100,000 pay rise may simply be too much to handle, considering United’s dire financial situation.

Already one of United’s highest-paid players, Casemiro was always expected to depart to free up wages, despite Amorim pushing for the club to keep him after overcoming challenging times. However, the pay rise may be the final nail in the coffin.

Links to Saudi Arabia have been prevalent in the media, but it may be tricky to offload Casemiro, who has previously stated that he sees his and his family’s future at Manchester United.
