Why Bruno Fernandes and three other Man Utd stars missed training ahead of Liverpool clash

The reasoning for why four of Manchester United’s key players were absent from Thursday’s training session has been revealed ahead of the side’s clash with Liverpool.

Manchester United are in pursuit of back-to-back Premier League wins following their recent 2-0 victory over Sunderland that came before the international break.

Ruben Amorim’s side eased their way to a comfortable result over the Black Cats due to first-half goals from Mason Mount and Benjamin Šeško, which has now seen them rise to 10th in the table.

With nine of the Reds’ 10 points coming at home, this Sunday will present them with a difficult challenge as they face the reigning champions, Liverpool, at Anfield.

Despite United being underdogs, they will be hoping to capitalise on their rivals’ recent run of poor form. With only three days until the fixture, four of United’s training absences have been explained.

Training absentees explained

With the Reds preparing for a tough test following the international break, Amorim decided to allow for some of his returning stars to miss the Thursday training session.

According to Manchester Evening News, Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Matheus Cunha, and Amad were among the players to miss the full session due to being granted additional time off.

Some players who were allowed extra time off still decided to report to Carrington, however, as they decided to complete light recovery work instead of participating in training.

Amorim has mentioned the possibility of a return to action for Noussair Mazraoui after the international period, whilst Lisandro Martinez closes in on a return to full training.

United need to capitalise

With lots of United’s stars being fully fit and well rested off the back of the two-week break, this Sunday presents them with the perfect opportunity to make a statement with a positive result.

They face an extremely out-of-form Liverpool side, who look short of both confidence and ideas off the back of three successive losses across all competitions.

United’s stars should be full of optimism following their victory over Sunderland, whilst all three of their marquee attacking signings should be licking their lips at Liverpool’s vulnerable backline.

Sunday will be an exciting affair between two very different sides, and with a lot to play for, Amorim’s Reds should be desperate to seize the opportunity.
