Willy Kambwala is set to make his Manchester United debut against West Ham in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Kambwala, 19, starts alongside Jonny Evans in the centre of defence as Erik ten Hag’s side travel to London to face David Moyes’ men.

The young starlet has spent three years at United and is finally in the starting lineup following involvement in the matchday squad against Liverpool last week.

Here is everything you need to know about the defender ahead of his debut

Who did United sign Kambwala from?

In the summer of 2020, United signed a 16-year-old Kambwala from Ligue 2 side Sochaux for a deal worth in the region of £3.5 million. He arrived with high expectations as one of the most promising central defenders on the continent.

The defender was also known to captain France’s under-17s group at the same time. A squad with tons of talented players.

How’s his United career gone so far?

It’s been a difficult time at Old Trafford thus far for Kambwala, who has been hit with several long-term injuries impacting his development. A debut would’ve likely come sooner if not for his setbacks.

This term, however, has been Kambwala’s most successful since joining. He has already made 15 appearances for the youth sides, more than any other campaign since joining, and has captained the Under-19s in two of their UEFA Youth League fixtures.

What is Kambwala’s playstyle?

Kambwala is a physically dominant defender with a tremendous skill set. Pace, power and good timing in his defensive contributions.

However, he is also a great passer of the ball and has the capabilities to carry the ball into more advanced areas.

The defender also understands his positioning well and that, mixed with his physical profile, helps him to dominate his box.
