Where Matheus Cunha ranks on Manchester United’s wage bill as expected salary revealed

Matheus Cunha’s expected wage bracket at Manchester United has been revealed, with the Brazilian forward closing in on a transfer to Rúben Amorim’s side.

Manchester United are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha this summer as they look to strengthen Rúben Amorim’s attacking options.

This season, the team has struggled with goal-scoring consistency, with much of the burden falling on captain Bruno Fernandes, especially after Amad’s injury sidelined him for the past two months.

Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Højlund have combined for just 18 goals this campaign, and only five players have more than ten goal involvements, with Marcus Rashford, who is set to be sold this summer, among them.

Given this, Amorim is seeking players who fit into his 3-4-3 formation, with Cunha seen as a perfect fit for the left attacking role.

How much will Cunha earn at United?

Amid United’s desire to sign up to seven new players this summer, the club are wary of lowering their wage bill as much as possible.

With players such as Christian Eriksen, Rashford, and Antony all leaving this summer, United will save millions each week on wages. New signings, including Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, have been offered lower contracts that progress with bonuses, starting at £ 35,000 a week.

However, with Cunha, it is different, as he will be joining United as a well-established Brazilian international and Premier League-proven player, meaning his wage demands will be much higher.

According to The Telegraph, his move to United will see the 25-year-old enter the bracket of those earning over £200,000 a week, which is a significant increase from his current £90,000 a week contract.

Where would Cunha rank on United’s wage bill?

Should Cunha be handed a contract worth at least £200,000 a week at the club, this would put him as United’s third-highest earner once the 2025/26 campaign commences.

Out of those currently in the side, only Casemiro and Fernandes would earn more than him, with the former on around £350,000 a week and Fernandes on £300,000 a week.

Others have more valuable contracts than £200,000 a week, such as Jadon Sancho and Rashford. However, with both of these players currently on loan and a significant portion of their wages being paid by Chelsea and Villa, respectively, United are expected to completely remove both players from their books this summer.

As for those just below the £200,000 a week line, Matthijs de Ligt sits at around £195,000 a week, while Harry Maguire currently earns £190,000 a week.

Cunha’s wage in excess of £200,000 a week would place him as one of the highest earners at Old Trafford and reflects the club’s hope that he will be a player who can make an immediate impact at United.
