Benjamin Šeško went through the gears to run through on goal against Everton on Monday night, before scoring, but where did his sprint rank amongst Manchester United’s stars?
Against Everton on Monday night, Michael Carrick’s Reds made it 16 points from a possible 18 as they soared up to fourth in the Premier League standings.
Manchester United were made to work for their three points during their first visit to the new Hill Dickinson stadium, but ultimately it was their man from the bench who came to the Reds’ rescue.
For the third time in four appearances, Benjamin Šeško came on from the bench to score a vital goal for his side, as he latched onto a Bryan Mbeumo pass following a clinical counterattack.
United fans have been desperate to see more of the Slovenian’s notorious athleticism, which he showcased against the Toffees as he sprinted through on Jordan Pickford’s goal.
Šeško’s top speed ranking
Šeško managed to run from the United half to get onto the end of Mbeumo’s pass in what seemed like an impossible amount of time before coolly dispatching his finish, but where did his speed rank?
The 22-year-old forward clocked a speed of 35.3km/h against David Moyes’ side, as reported by Opta, via the United website, which has ranked him at second amongst United’s top speeds for the season.
This top speed is only topped by Mbeumo, whose sprint against Fulham earlier in the season clocked in at an incredibly impressive speed 36.3km/h.
Rounding off the top three is, yet again, Šeško, whose achieved a speed of 34.9km/h at home to Newcastle. Clearly, the Reds’ summer signings are already up and running.
Šeško’s impressive form
It wasn’t just his sprint that was impressive against Everton, but the manner in which Šeško took his finish was similar to what you would expect from a seasoned professional.
The 22-year-old’s finishes in each of his last three matches have been nothing short of impressive, and will surely have earned him a starting spot against Crystal Palace.
United’s new talisman secured a 3-2 victory against Fulham with an off-balance strike into the roof of the net late into proceedings, before scoring an arguably even more impressive volley against West Ham only one week later.
These recent contributions have taken Šeško up to seven goals for the league season, which is very commendable given it is his first season in England, and he has only started 11 matches.
