When Tyrell Malacia could return to Manchester United training, his recent actions have been “off the charts”

Tyrell Malacia failed to find a route out of Manchester United this summer, despite the club making it clear that he was not part of Rúben Amorim’s plans.

When it became apparent that Rúben Amorim had banished Tyrell Malacia from training with the first-team squad alongside other such as Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Alejandro Garnacho, some found it too harsh a move.

The club’s official line was that the above four, alongside Jadon Sancho, had requested to leave the club in the summer transfer window of 2025 and were therefore told not to participate in pre-season training. However, this was disputed by those close to the players themselves.

Malacia was signed by Erik ten Hag in 2022 and played 39 times in all competitions, but suffered a knee injury that kept him out for 17 months. He returned with Amorim at the helm, but played just eight times under the head coach before being loaned to PSV Eindhoven in January 2025.

The 26-year-old was then made available for transfer in the summer, but moves to AS Roma and La Liga side Elche broke down in the final weeks of August, leaving Malacia still at Old Trafford once the transfer window closed.

Amorim confirms Malacia will be reintegrated

Throughout the summer, Amorim was questioned about his treatment of the five exiled players and what would happen if they could not be moved on.

The United boss explained multiple times that, if the players not currently in training were to remain at Old Trafford beyond the end of the window, they would be reintegrated into the squad.

When questioned on Malacia last week, Amorim confirmed that Malacia would be “returning to contact with team-mates and the ball in the U21s then we’ll see.”

Although he refused to confirm on if the 26-year-old would be reintegrated into first-team training and the first-team squad, it’s likely that he will at least return to the training group.

Malacia impressing in the Academy as possible timeline explained

After Amorim’s commnts, MailSport broke the news that Malacia had, in fact, already been training with the U21s for the last two weeks.

According to the report, Malacia has been “off the charts” with his intensity, with his attitude setting an example.

Continuing, it’s claimed that considering how the Dutchman has handled himself in training, some of the U21s players have been left surprised that he was barred from the first-team squad this summer.

Malacia is expected to cintue training with the U21s as he looks to rebuild his fitness, and a resuest has been made to allow him to play with the squad for matches.

United have a further two fixtures in the Premier League before the October internatinoal break, giving Malacia plenty more time to build his fitness. There is a possibility he could then return to first-team training ahead of the Liverpool tie on 19 October, although this is yet to be confirmed.
