When Ruben Amorim will provide Bruno Fernandes injury update after ‘assessment’ at Carrington

Manchester United fans will be waiting for Ruben Amorim’s next update on Bruno Fernandes after he suffered an injury against Aston Villa.

Manchester United were beaten 2–1 by Aston Villa at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon, as Morgan Rogers struck twice to seal victory for the hosts.

Although United controlled significant stretches of the game, they were unable to convert their dominance into goals, while Rogers made the difference with two clinical moments of quality.

There were positives for Ruben Amorim to take from his side’s performance, but their continued difficulty in capitalising on strong periods once again proved costly.

Adding to United’s concerns, captain Bruno Fernandes was forced off at half-time with an apparent injury; a worrying sight for supporters. The midfielder appeared to have suffered a hamstring problem.

Amorim described the team’s current injury situation as “really strange” during his post-match interviews and suggested Fernandes could be sidelined “for a while” after sustaining a “soft tissue” injury.

When Amorim will provide Fernandes fitness update

Amorim comments regarding Fernandes after the game were concerning and he is certainly going to miss the Boxing Day clash against Newcastle.

But he was speaking immediately after full-time and fans will be hoping that the issue is not as serious as it seemed when Fernandes pulled up.

According to BBC Sport, the United captain was still being assessed for the full extent of his injury at Carrington on Monday afternoon.

Amorim will be speaking to the media for his pre-Newcastle press conference on Christmas Eve and he will likely be able to provide a more detailed update on the injury.

Since he moved to Old Trafford in January 2020, Fernandes has only missed nine of the club’s 221 Premier League fixtures.

Who starts in United’s midfield?

Casemiro returns from suspension for the next game but Kobbie Mainoo will not be available for selection as he is also out with his own injury.

Amorim will be debating how to line up in midfield against Newcastle, and he might have to look for a new option alongside Casemiro after Manuel Ugarte failed to impress against Villa.

Lisandro Martínez or Mason Mount could be used in the engine room alongside the Brazilian in that Boxing Day clash.

Following on from that, United fans will be hoping that Mainoo is back fit and ready to start games, as this is now the perfect chance for him to get minutes on the pitch.
