When is the Europa League round of 16 draw? Dates, times, and teams
Manchester United advanced themselves into the next round of the Europa League after a stunning 2-1 win over Barcelona at Old Trafford, securing a 4-3 victory on aggregate.
It was Antony who filled the role of saviour in the second half with a lovely first-time effort with his left foot sliding the ball past Marc-Andre ter Stagen in Barcelona’s net to hand Manchester United victory on the night.
The match was not without controversy, with Bruno Fernandes giving away a soft penalty in the first half to hand Robert Lewandowski a penalty.
It was Fred who drummed up the equalising goal right at the beginning of the second half, setting the tone for the United attackers who eventually found victory.
With what was potentially the hardest tie of the entire campaign done and dusted, United will now look forwards to the round of 16 draw, but when will it take place?
When will the draw happen?
The Europa League draw for the round of 16 will take place at 11:00 BST on Friday 24 January at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland.
Who could Manchester United face?
As Manchester United are an unseeded team for the draw, they cannot face any other unseeded sides, meaning their options for the draw are limited.
Seeded teams are those who qualified directly into the round of 16 through winning their Europa League group, while the unseeded teams are those who qualified via the play-offs
The full list of potential opponents is:
Fenerbahçe
Ferencvárosi
Feyenoord
Fribourg
Real Betis
Real Sociedad
Royale Union Saint-Gilloise
Arsenal are not on this list as UEFA rules prohibited two sides from the same nation from being drawn against each other before the quarter-finals.
When are the ties being played?
The ties will be played across two legs as normal, with the first tie commencing on 9 March. The second leg will be played on 16 March, one week later.
Are there any other notable teams in the draw?
Yes.
As well as Manchester United, Juventus and Sevilla also confirmed their places in the round of 16.
Erik ten Hag’s former club, Ajax, did not make it through the round, losing 2-1 on aggregate to German side Union Berlin.
