Manchester United have been informed when they must release Amad, Bryan Mbeumo, and Noussair Mazraoui ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Manchester United will be losing trio Amad, Bryan Mbeumo, and Noussair Mazraoui to the Africa Cup of Nations later this month.
While Mazroaui has played a bit-part role at Old Trafford so far this season due to injuries, the other two have been fantastic.
Mbeumo is United’s top scorer with six to his name across all competitions, while Amad has been essential as a right wing-back in the last few months.
The pair have formed a devastating partnership on the right flank for Rúben Amorim, and their departures to AFCON later this month are a major blow.
When clubs have to release players for AFCON revealed
It has been confirmed by FIFA that they have changed the rules regarding when players have to be released for the tournament.
While previous tournaments required clubs to release the relevant players weeks before the first fixture, this has now been reduced to just seven days.
This would mean that players from Premier League sides, including United, would not need to be released until 15 December, instead of the initially anticipated 8 December.
AFCON is due to kick of on 21 December, running through all the way until the final on 19 January.
What games will the Untied trio miss?
For United, there will still need to be one final detail to Iron out. The club are due to host Bournemouth at Old Trafford on the evening of Monday, 15 December, and it has been stated that it’s fine for both Amad and Mbeumo to feature in the tie, as Cameroon and the Ivory Coast do not play until 24 December.
However, there is an issue with Mazraoui’s possible involvement, as Morocco start their AFCON campaign on 21 December.
However, considering that the likes of Sunderland and Liverpool will get to keep key players as they play on the weekend rather than Monday evening, it would be unfair for only United not to be able to field players due to AFCON that game week.
Once the group stage commences, the trio will all miss the games against Aston Villa (A), Newcastle (H), and Wolverhampton Wanderers (H).
Should any of them make it to the knockout stages and potentially all the way to the final, games against Leeds United (A), Burnley (A), and Manchester City (H) could be missed.
