While there has been plenty of talk about various Manchester United transfer rumours, updates on Tyrell Malacia have been few and far between.
After battling through a tough two-year spell with injuries, Tyrell Malacia returned to full fitness just as Ruben Amorim took charge at Manchester United.
However, it quickly became apparent—after only a few appearances under the new Portuguese manager—that Malacia wouldn’t be getting the consistent minutes he needed following such a lengthy layoff.
As a result, United brought in 20-year-old Patrick Dorgu and arranged a six-month loan move for Malacia back to his homeland, joining PSV Eindhoven.
Malacia was part of an Eredivisie title winning side, with PSV mounting a stunning late-season surge to snatch the championship away from Ajax.
United’s stance on Malacia?
United are looking to sell players this summer and many reports have mentioned those on loan such as Antony and Marcus Rashford as players they want to depart.
But Malacia is a slightly different case to the other loanees. He was not banished from the squad or underperforming massively, he just needed to get consistent game-time after returning from a lengthy spell out of action.
Still, it has been clarified by the Manchester Evening News that the club are aiming to sell the 25-year-old defender this summer.
United signed Dorgu in the January window and he has been operating as the left wingback. With Harry Amass and another new signing – Diego Leon – coming in, it seems unlikely that there will be chances for Malacia at Old Trafford going forward.
Chances of PSV return seem low
It was reported back in January that PSV would have the chance to sign Malacia at the end of his loan spell for around £9 million but that seems unlikely now the season has ended.
The United defender couldn’t break into the Dutch side on a consistent basis last term, with PSV’s full-backs being some of their brighter performers.
Malacia even hinted that his time at the club was over after the Eredivisie victory. On Instagram, he posted images of him celebrating with the team and captioned the post, “Closing this chapter with a smile.”
As mentioned beforehand, there haven’t been many rumours around Malacia’s next club, although it is unlikely that United will have difficulties finding a move.
Malacia does not have a huge salary such as Rashford or Antony and his biggest problem was the doubts over his fitness. He had no injuries at PSV and will be hoping to revive his career away from Old Trafford.
