What Ruben Amorim said about Marcus Rashford as forward prepared to ‘give 100% in Man Utd training’ this summer

Ruben Amorim decided to allow Marcus Rashford to leave Manchester United on loan last season after issues occurred behind the scenes.

When Manchester United decided to appoint Ruben Amorim as the replacement to Erik ten Hag, many fans assumed that Marcus Rashford would be a big part of his plans.

The 27-year-old appeared to suit the inside forward role Amorim uses in his 3-4-3 system and could also be an option upfront.

Rashford scored three goals in his first two starts under the Portuguese boss but would only start one more game before a mid-season loan move to Aston Villa occurred.

The exact reason why Rashford and Amorim seemed to fall out is not known but the United head coach suggested that the no.10 was not training hard enough at Carrington.

What Amorim said about Rashford

Rashford is now looking for a potential move to Barcelona but that doesn’t seem like it will materialise anytime soon and United’s pre-season is around the corner.

Reports from MailSport have claimed that the forward is planning to return to Carrington and be fully involved in the club’s pre-season schedule. It was stated that he will ‘give 100% in training’ when he returns.

Amorim has not spoken directly to the player since his loan exit but his most recent comments were positive, even if they suggested that a permanent exit was on the cards.

“I know Rashford really well and everybody knows the talent that he has,” Amorim said at the end of March. “So I already spoke about that. He’s a top player if he wants [it]. So I’m not surprised and it’s the same with Antony.

“It’s a good thing we see our players doing well on loan in a different context. That can happen. It’s a good sign for the club. We are really happy for our players that are on loan doing well.”

The United boss also claimed that the plan was for Rashford to return for pre-season, however.

“When you put a player on loan the best thing is for them to perform. All these (loan) players have talent and they have to put that on the team,” he added, speaking in April.

Can Rashford return to United under Amorim?

Some people are wondering if a return for Rashford is possible, but it does seem unlikely.

Barcelona are now unable to sign Nico Williams, who just signed a new long-term deal at Athletic Club, which gives the English forward more of a chance at that move.

United have also strengthened on that left side of attack through the signing of Matheus Cunha, who is also supposedly set to take Rashford’s no.10 shirt from him.

There is a chance that Rashford could be deployed upfront, especially due to the lack of top class striker options available on the market, but that feels like an unlikely prospect.

Of course, anything in football is possible and stranger things have happened.
