What Ruben Amorim said about Jadon Sancho as Chelsea opt to send winger back to Manchester United

Ruben Amorim was asked about Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho last season and he will soon be returning to Old Trafford after Chelsea decided against signing him.

Manchester United sent Jadon Sancho on a loan move to Chelsea at the beginning of last season, with the Stamford Bridge club having an obligation to buy the player for £25 million.

Sancho fell out of favour under Erik ten Hag after he accused the manager of scapegoating him. Ten Hag never used the winger afterwards apart from in pre-season games before his Chelsea move.

Reports earlier this year emerged revealing that the London-based club could opt out of their agreement with United to sign Sancho permanently if they paid the Reds a £5 million fine.

It has now been confirmed by David Ornstein that Sancho will not be signing for Chelsea after failing to reach an agreement on personal terms.

What Amorim said about Sancho

United supporters have a broken relationship with Sancho after he failed so miserably at the club. It would cause a fuss if he was to stay at Old Trafford now.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that this is not the plan, with those at United still planning to sell him, and Sancho’s camp are assessing the options available.

When asked about Sancho earlier this year, Amorim was very abrupt in his response, claiming that the loanee is “not my problem” before a game against Tottenham Hotspur.

“I’m just focused on my players and my problems. Sancho is not my problem,” he told reporters. “I’m really focused on beating Tottenham and using all the players we have to achieve that.

“No, no. I’m really focused on this season. We have a lot to do and a lot to improve. We need to win games and then we will see next season.”

Sancho must sort United exit soon

For Sancho, this has all got to be slightly embarrassing and his camp need to try and actually sort out a realistic move for him in the coming days.

United need funds and they would have received £25 million for the flopped winger, now they need to find another suitor and agree an entirely new fee.

Despite scoring a goal in the Europa Conference League final, Sancho could still not find an agreement to stay at Stamford Bridge as they would not go against their wage structure.

The one thing United need to avoid is letting the player stay around until later in the summer. His exit must occur soon and perhaps he can himself save the embarrassment of having to turn up for pre-season.
