What Ruben Amorim said about his ‘biggest problem’ speaks volumes about Manchester United dressing room

Ruben Amorim has spoken about his ‘biggest problem’ at Manchester United right now and it speaks volumes about the dressing room at the moment.

Manchester United have endured a dreadful start to the season, winning only two of their opening seven matches and already crashing out of the Carabao Cup.

Following last year’s disappointing campaign – finishing 15th in the league and losing the Europa League final – Ruben Amorim was under pressure to deliver a strong response, but his side has failed to find momentum.

Despite heavy backing in the summer, with over £180 million spent on a new attacking line, United are still struggling to convert their chances.

Next up, the Reds host Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon and Amorim has spoken to the media about his ‘biggest problem’ right now.

What Amorim said about his ‘biggest problem’

Since Amorim took over at United, there have been constant questions about whether the system will work and if he will change his approach.

That noise has grew stronger following every defeat and the United boss has admitted that he is concerned about how it impacts his dressing room.

“My biggest problem is for my players believe in you guys when you say the problem of our team is the system,” the 40-year-old told reporters.

“I get crazy about that because I can see the team, I can point you the way we play in different systems, we need to play the same way, with the same power, with the same intensity, with the same focus. If you do that, it doesn’t matter the system.”

This follows on from reports which claim that players within the United squad are uncertain whether Amorim’s methods can help them turn things around at Old Trafford.

United dressing room not behind Amorim’s ideas

Once again, Amorim has provided the media with ammunition as he essentially admits that the dressing room is not fully behind his idea.

The external noise will always be a factor at United but Amorim would surely have to believe that his players are buying into his plans and not letting anything else impact that.

Whether or not that means there are players in the squad who are weak-minded or similar, it would also suggest that it is the beginning of the end for Amorim if his squad do not believe in his system.

His final point is correct. No matter what system you play in, there needs to be some fundamentals to succeed, but will those come when there is not full belief? It seems unlikely.
