Ruben Amorim has described Wolves star Matheus Cunha as a “really quality player” amid transfer speculation about a Manchester United move.
Manchester United have to somehow come back down to earth after their indescribable victory over Lyon in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
Ruben Amorim’s side now have a Premier League outing against Wolves on the weekend to focus on, and some players could be rested for this game.
After playing 120 minutes against the French side, United could see some young players included in the team to face Wolves at Old Trafford.
Both teams are towards the bottom of the Premier League table but Wolves do have some dangerous players in their ranks, including United target Matheus Cunha.
What Amorim really thinks about Cunha
Cunha, 25, has been the standout performer at the Molineux this term which has caught the attention of many top clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.
With 16 goals and four assists so far this season, Cunha has been dragging Wolves forward and it is clear that Amorim sees him as a top player.
“He [Vítor Pereira] has some really quality players, [Matheus] Cunha, all these guys have real quality,” the United boss said in his pre-match press conference.
“They are fresh, we know that it’s going to be a tough match and we are going to need a lot from our supporters. We need them on Sunday.”
Asked further about Cunha and the links with a summer move, Amorim played down his praise: “I just gave the example because I remember about Matheus, he’s scoring a lot of goals, it’s just that…”
Significant Cunha transfer update
This follows on reports from GiveMeSport which state that those at United feel like Cunha is a more attainable target than Xavi Simons and the Wolves star is firmly on their radar as they finalise plans for the summer.
His existing experience in England is something that United’s key decision makers believe could make it easier to lure Cunha to Old Trafford.
The report added that the 25-year-old is open to making the move to United regardless of whether they manage to secure Champions League qualification for next season.
Reports elsewhere have suggested that the player’s agent has already spoken to United chiefs and this seems like a deal that could end up happening.
