What Patrick Dorgu’s lengthy injury update could mean for two Manchester United stars

Following the recent reports that Patrick Dorgu is injured for several weeks, UtdDistrict have assessed what this may mean for two Manchester United stars.

Since the arrival of Michael Carrick, Manchester United have enjoyed a fantastic couple of weeks, with the Reds putting both Arsenal and Manchester City to the sword.

The Reds, who are now fourth in the Premier League, have adopted a more conventional 4-2-3-1 system, which has also given Patrick Dorgu a new lease of life.

The Danish wing-back has been pushed further forward in recent weeks, operating more as a traditional winger, which has seen him score in back-to-back games, including a screamer at The Emirates on Sunday.

Unfortunately for the young United ace, he has suffered a hamstring injury, which will see him face a lengthy spell on the sidelines. UtdDistrict have assessed what this may mean for two of Dorgu’s teammates.

Cunha set for reintroduction

According to a report from BBC Sport, United’s young Dane could be out for several weeks, with a timescale for his absence not yet clear.

The 21-year-old’s absence could allow for the reintroduction of Brazilian attacker Matheus Cunha, who has also benefited from the recent change in manager.

Cunha, who has started as a substitute in both of the Reds’ recent victories, has managed to pick up a goal and an assist in these two fixtures, including a stunning winner against Arsenal.

With Dorgu out, this could allow for the Brazilian to reenter the frame on the left wing for the Reds’ bout against Fulham this weekend.

Dorgu injury enforces Shaw importance

Another issue for the Reds following the injury to their in-form Dane is that it places a significant amount of importance on Luke Shaw, who is now United’s only fit, senior left-back.

Shaw, who has struggled with injuries for the vast majority of his United career, has done extremely well to put his woes behind him and has since started all 23 of the Reds’ Premier League games this season.

The English left-back will need to keep himself in good nick over the next couple of months as his importance cannot be understated, especially considering Dorgu’s injury concerns.

Hopefully, United can continue their current run of excellent form despite the injury to their 21-year-old left-back, and it can potentially allow Cunha the chance to fill the void.
